Solar Web Design for Solum GB Ltd

This project involved the redesign and redevelopment of a solar web design for Solum GB Ltd, an award-winning renewable energy company based in Bournemouth. The client, Luke, approached me after identifying performance issues with their existing website, which was struggling to attract leads through search and wasn’t delivering the expected user experience across devices.

The goal was to build a clean, high-performance WordPress website using Elementor, hosted on Krystal’s UK-based green hosting platform. The new site would focus on local SEO for Bournemouth and surrounding areas, while ensuring scalability for national coverage. Content was restructured to prioritise their core services: solar PV installation, solar thermal systems, air source heat pumps, EV charging, and more.

All technical SEO foundations were overhauled — from rewriting meta titles and descriptions, adding missing alt attributes, improving heading structure, and eliminating outdated content and sitemaps. I also implemented 301 redirects to retain search equity and added HTML and XML sitemaps to support efficient indexing by Google.

Image assets were fully optimised with meaningful filenames and compressed for performance. I replaced generic stock images with a curated ‘Our Work’ gallery that reflects real-world installations and improves trust. Accreditations were also prominently featured, including MCS, BUS, TrustMark, HIES, NAPIT, and CheckaTrade, to build confidence and strengthen authority signals.

To support direct customer engagement, I advised integrating a live chat or WhatsApp button. I also ensured the site was made fully secure with an SSL certificate, enabled HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), and added a GDPR-compliant cookie banner and legal policy pages (privacy, terms, cookies).

Behind the scenes, I created and configured new Google Analytics 4 and Search Console profiles, with keyword tracking via SerpStat and scheduled SEO audits. Plugin reviews and performance checks were carried out, and unnecessary elements like orphaned blog posts and category archives were removed.

This project followed the same SEO-forward structure used in a similar renewable project for Sun Spark Solar — another solar business looking to improve online visibility and lead generation through strategic web design.

The end result is a responsive, search-optimised solar web design that gives Solum GB a stronger presence in both local and national renewable energy markets.
